Tanner Vineyards

Tanner Vineyards, one of Calaveras’ esteemed family-owned wineries, takes tradition and culture to heart in the best way possible. Carrying on a family tradition that started over 150 years ago Richard, Ronald and Judy Tanner have crafted eleven estate grown wines from their vineyard and are an integral part of the Murphys community.

Great-grandpa Angelo Sciaccaluga was the first winemaker in Calaveras County to pay the official “alcohol tax” back in the 1860s. He was a vintner in his homeland and he was determined to continue to be a vintner in his new home. The Sierra Foothills have proven time and time again to be a truly remarkable location for grape growing and Grandpa Angelo was one of the earlier folks to reap the benefits of the Mother Lode’s elements. 130 years later, the Tanner siblings planted their vineyard, aiming to continue what Grandpa Angelo had started. And boy, did they!

Not only are they the producers of beautifully crafted wines, they’re also active in the Murphys community, offering food and wine pairings on their patio, participating in Murphys California Winegrape Association’s various events like Passport Weekend and Winegrape and Gourmet as well as in Murphys most cherished celebrations, Irish Day and Calaveras Grape Stomp & Street Faire.
