Murphys Creek Theatre’s “The Turn of the Screw” — LAST SHOWS!

Murphys Creek Theatre Presents: "THE TURN OF THE SCREW"

Murphys Creek Theatre Company is presenting a suitably chilling production to usher in Halloween in all it’s dark glory. And it’s the final weekend to catch the production!

Henry James’ eerie novella, “The Turn of the Screw”, has been the center of much literary criticism, deconstruction and controversy: is it a ghost story or a psychological drama? What’s real and what’s in the mind?

The story concerns a young Governess who ventures to an English country estate to care for Miles and Flora, orphans living under the care of their wealthy but distant uncle. Upon her arrival, the Governess learns of the sudden deaths of the children’s previous caretakers, whose presence now haunts the home and seduces all who remain. It is her gravest charge, the Governess decides, to rid the lingering ghosts from the hallways of the home and the minds of its inhabitants.

For the seemingly never-ending array of theories and opinions there have been nearly as many artistic adaptations, and Murphys Creek Theatre’s production is one of particular creative note. While there are seven characters, there are only two actors — a choice that no doubt emphasizes the psychological implications of the tale (all while providing an incredible project in which the actors and creative team to truly sink their teeth).
