Memorial Day Weekend in Murphys!

Memorial Day Weekend in Murphys!

Downtown Murphys

While summertime doesn’t OFFICIALLY kick off for another month, the summer vibe is usually given a good head-start on Memorial Day weekend — the barbecues are pulled out, picnic baskets are packed, camping gear is dusted off — and… well… guess what? Memorial Day weekend is THIS WEEKEND (in case you didn’t know).

For the active types, the number of outdoor sites and activities in the Murphys area is astounding, truly. Hit up Mosquito Lake, Lake Alpine, White Pines Lake, New Melones Lake, Lake Tulloch or Utica & Union Reservoirs for some fishing and lake-side relaxing. Take a bike ride to Parrots Ferry Bridge or explore the caves at Black Chasm, California Cavern, Mercer Caverns or Moaning Cavern Adventure Park. Follow scenic Ebbetts Pass up to a rafting adventure on the Stanislaus River or weekend of camping at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Spend a couple of days taking in some cultural and historical sites like Sutter Gold Mine, The Red Barn Museum, Telegraph City, Sierra Nevada Logging Company, Columbia State Historic Park or even the Murphys Old Timers Museum. Spread out your picnic basket (and loosen your belts) for an afternoon at Red Apple Bakery and Fruit Stand or take a hike to Tuolumne Table Mountain or the Calaveras County Upper Natural Bridge. Get your golfing on at Greenhorn Creek, Forest Meadows or Saddle Creek. Or see the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills on horseback with Horse & Barrel Horseback Trail Rides.

The other option is to stick close to home in Murphys. Take a walk down historic Main Street and pop in to the plethora of tasting rooms and boutique shops. Plop down for a drink at Historic Murphys Hotel, some karaoke and beer at Cactus Jacks or some live music and good wine at Metate Hill Lounge. Have dinner at Grounds or Firewood, go upscale at V Bistro or take the vegetarian route at Mineral. There are a number of fantastic activities happening in Murphys this weekend… check out this selection of festive goings-on:
