Lake Alpine

Lake Alpine

At 7,303 feet above sea level, Lake Alpine — which sits majestically in the southwest corner of Alpine County — is never too hot during the summers. In fact, snow can linger around the lake as late as June. Don’t let that stop you. With trout swimming about in droves, plenty of space for kayaking or even power boating and a myriad of trails in the area, there are plenty of recreational opportunities to be had. In the summertime, the lake is truly a site to behold. Its glassy waters, striking shoreline of rocky outcroppings and towering trees, and its proximity to hiking trails and parks makes it an ideal weekend destination.

Even at wintertime, Lake Alpine is teaming with activity, particularly for those who enjoy cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. While the road closes to vehicle traffic about a half-mile away from the lake itself, skiers can still enjoy a good ski around the lake. Snow-passes cost just $5 a day or a minimal payment of $25 for the entire season.

All that and it’s just 33 miles from Red Apple Ranch. Stop by Aria Bakery on your way out of town for a carb-n-caffeine fix, fill your cooler with some yummies from Alchemy Market and be on your way!
