Dodge Ridge Ski Resort

Dodge Ridge

Just over an hour’s drive east of Murphys is Dodge Ridge, a family run ski resort with a big heart tucked into Stanislaus National Forest. It may not be the largest resort out there, but its 67 runs and 12 lifts on 852 acres are enough to keep the skiers coming back year after year.

Originally opened by the Purdy family over 61 years ago, Dodge Ridge has stayed a family-run resort and, though it changed hands 36 years ago, the second family to own and manage it — the Helm family — has kept up the tradition, keeping it a family affair through and through. The Helm family is keen on keeping things as eco-friendly as they can and offers several ways to ski green.

Its proximity to Murphys makes it ideal for a day-trip, yet they also offer campgrounds and four dining options — the cafeteria-style Creekside Cafe, the North Fork Bistro located in their new Family Lodg, the Boulder Bar located inside the Creekside Cafe and Local’s Cafe plunked down in a cozy slopeside spot at the bottom of Chair 7.

Get a ski fix, then come on back to Murphys to warm the bones, take in a late dinner and relive the day over a glass of Calaveras wine.
