“Oasis” at Newsome-Harlow Winery: A Middle-Eastern Themed Dinner
Chef Melly’s monthly themed dinners have quickly become a highly anticipated event in the Murphys area and this month she’s really pulling out all the stops. For instance, Chef Melanie is known for her Middle-Eastern flare… but did you also know she can belly dance too? There’s only one way to find out! Not only is the menu incredible (take a look below!) but there will be a hookah lounge and belly dancers on hand to keep things fun!

Memorial Day Concert TONIGHT

Audition for this summer’s CSTAR! Kids production of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!
CSTARS! Kids is buzzing with excitement as they prepare for auditions for their seventh theatrical presentation, “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST”, to be presented at the Bret Harte High School theatre at the end of July. Directed by Ann Mazzaferro, the summer production of the Disney classic will feature local kiddos eager to show the world just how passionate and talented they really are.

Possibly the longest-running event in the state’s history, The Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee goes as far back as 1893 and now delights thousands of visitors each year as Calaveras shows off its best in entertainment, exhibits, livestock, arena events and food.

Murphys Classic Car Cruise Nights begins this Thursday night at Murphys Historic Hotel with fantastic music provided by local DJ “Decade Music”, some cash raffles and tasty treats! Proud owners of classic cars from all over Calaveras will be gathering in downtown Murphys to cruise Main Street and show off their fancy handywork. It’s a great way to get out, mingle with the neighbors and enjoy good company, good tunes, good food and good weather!

Murphys Creek Theatre Presents “SYLVIA” — Only Two Weekends Left!
Calaveras’ celebrated troupe of actors, Murphys Creek Theatre Company, have kicked off their 2012 season with the award-winning play, SYLIVA, by A.R. Gurney, and there are just two weekends left of the run. While there’s a nifty bit whimsey (a pet played by a person… with dialogue), the story is an incredibly human tale of a couple struggling the jealousy and loneliness that comes from lives and careers running at different speeds.
Melting Moments: Toasted Cheese Class at Marisolio Tasting Bar
Local cheese connoisseur, Judy Creighton, will be on hand at Marisolio Tasting Bar tomorrow for a presentation to drool for as she discusses the fine practice of melting cheeses, whips up a few recipes and, of course, shares the dishes with the lucky attendees. Paired with some of Marisolio’s incredible olive oils, the ante is upped in a win-win match between budding chefs and their tasty creations.
Haley Verzani Fundraiser
Murphys and Calaveras are known for their love of community, and this weekend is a truly wonderful example of this sincere commitment to the family built by community. This Saturday, the community is coming together to not only remember little Haley Verzani — killed last month during a severe winter storm — but to help get the Verzani family back on their feet after the terrible loss of their daughter, their home and their belongings. An evening of food and incredible music by local favorites will be on hand, and all those participating are donating their time and services for the event.
Wine, Dine and Watch Wild & Scenic Films at Newsome-Harlow
Newsome Harlow has quite the soiree planned for tomorrow night as they invite folks to their Wine, Dine and Watch Wild & Scenic Films night! Their award-winning wines will be available for tasting, Chef Andy will be showcasing some incredible Thai dishes she learned while exploring Thailand last summer, and two films — “Ice” and “Someplace With a Mountain” will be screened as part of the SYRCL Wild & Scenic Film Festival, with a discussion to follow.
